  3. Pull the tool straight up and away from the surface without twisting or dragging, so as not to smear the wet film. 
  4. Examine the teeth of the comb to locate the highest-numbered notch covered by the coating; this value represents your wet film thickness. 
  5. Instantly wipe down the gauge utilizing a suitable solvent to prevent the paint or coating from drying and accumulating on the tool.
